Is a DJ too much for a baby shower?

Not when the volume and pacing are right. The aim is a relaxed, happy room, with someone handling music and announcements so the host can enjoy it too.

Can you play a specific song for a gender reveal?

Yes. Pick the song, or one for each outcome, and it will be cued for the moment of the reveal.
